Case Study – Engaging Spaces
Danielle Thompson, Commercial Director at Purple Monster, has recently worked with Coventry University Enterprises on their Focus Digital Project to launch a new website with a totally new idea, called ‘Engaging Spaces’. Engaging Spaces as Danielle puts is the ‘Airbnb’ of meeting rooms and event spaces.
The website essentially allows the listing of under utilised, unusual and unique meeting room spaces to be booked for meetings, conferences and events.
The Focus Digital project run by Coventry University Enterprises and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), offers SME’s within Coventry and Warwickshire, Birmingham, Greater Birmingham, the Black Country and the Marches free one to one design support, match funded grants and workshops in specific digital subjects. With little more than a fantastic idea, Danielle approached Focus Digital for support to take the idea and bring it to life.
The first problem for Engaging Spaces was selecting a program. With so many projects out there supporting SME’s and offering grants, Danielle eventually decided on Focus Digital because of it’s specific knowledge in the digital sector, coupled with it’s match funded grants, made it the perfect fit for the Engaging Spaces website.
Dig a little deeper and it was Focus Digitals’ one to one Graphic Design support that enabled Engaging Spaces to move from the idea phase to the visualisation stage relatively quickly, and then the grant application to go towards funding a commercial web development agency to build the site, which was key to it’s speedy development.
With the time from the initial contact with Coventry University Enterprises in April 2017 to going live in January 2018, Danielle pays tribute to the Focus Digital project for the speed of the process, and in particular, the ability of the Graphic Design support provided by Focus Digital to work directly with the commercial web development agency, thus freeing up more time to work on other things for Danielle, who knows, perhaps the next great idea!
