Steel Fabrication – Arromax Structures LTD
Founded in 1979 Arromax Structures is a steel fabrication, metal profiling and sheet metalworking plant based in Nottinghamshire. Initially serving the mining industry, the business found itself needing to diversify into new markets. In 2010 Ryan Ward, who is now MD of the company, was brought in to find new markets and steer the company in a new direction. Their products are now found all over the world, with many blue chip, clients across the aviation, rail and automotive industries.
Ryan approached Innovate2Succeed for support as he wanted to bring in a clear strategy to ensure long term business sustainability and better communicate the Arromax off er to customers. The company also had high staff turnover, and he wanted to examine ways of increasing staff retention.
Derby and Derbyshire Enterprise Growth Fund successfully awarded Arromax an EU grant; enabling them to increase its laser cutting facility and create further employment opportunities to help regenerate the local area.
Focussing on the company culture; recruiting the right people, investing in them, improving training and the introduction of an Employee of the Month programme has significantly enhanced the company ethic with everyone working towards the same goals. Arromax has found there is no longer any need to advertise vacancies.
The innovation focus
Working with his coach, Ryan began to look at the long-term objectives for the business. They worked on a three-year plan, a growth strategy, competitor analysis focussing on differentiation and a marketing plan. In addition, they examined the benefits of introducing a staff loyalty programme to improve staff culture and ultimately increase retention. They also examined possible sources of funding. As an innovative business, there was a need to continually invest in new technology to ensure their products remain at the cutting edge.
